At Leah wedding I test a new, at least for me, method of lighting the group shots at the altar return. Normally I used the flash, a 580 ex 11 set on auto. This has always proved to be difficult for me. The shots are always too light due to the black tuxes or too dark because of the white gown. So for the test I set the flash on manual, made some test shots adjusting for the best expose. All this was done before the pictures began. I made a mental note of my location, 5 pews back or something I could remember. The exposures were level shot to shot. The only ones that needed adjusting were the ones of the grandparents. These I had the couple come down to the main floor level. This was shorting the distance from flash to subjects, thus making the image brighter by 1/2 stop.
